The Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sheikh received Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad at the Shura Council complex in Riyadh recently.
The Shura Council Speaker extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Ameer Ajwad to the Kingdom and recalled his productive visit to Sri Lanka in 2019 leading a Shurah Council delegation at an invitation extended by the then Speaker of Parliament of Sri Lanka. Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh emphasized the need for fostering bilateral cooperation in the potential areas of mutual interest between the two countries and extended an invitation for a parliamentary delegation from Sri Lanka to visit Saudi Arabia when the new parliament is formed.
While expressing appreciation for the invitation extended by the Speaker of Shurah Council to the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad underscored the importance of enhancement of collaboration between the legislative bodies of both countries. He also pointed out that such exchanges of visits would further elevate bilateral relations between the two countries to new heights in the years ahead at a time when the two countries commemorate 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year. Ambassador Ameer Ajwad also recalled the establishment of the first Sri Lanka - Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Friendship Association in 2002 and the visit of a 13-member Parliamentary delegation from Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia for the first time in 2003 during his previous stint in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh has a distinguished career in public service and plays key roles on various councils, including the Council of Senior Scholars, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and Council of Arab Ministers of Justice. Previously, he served as Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Justice.
The Ambassador was accompanied by Minister/Head of Chancery of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh Mohamed Anas.
