“Sounds and Flavours of Sri Lanka,” an event highlighting the many facets of Sri Lanka, was held at the Embassy on 12th December 2012. Approximately 200 guests had the opportunity to experience a glimpse of what Sri Lanka, has to offer as a tourist destination.

This unique event also afforded an opportunity for frequent visitors to Sri Lanka to re-live their memories of the country, while sharing their experiences with those who were intending to visit the country shortly.

The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Deputy Head of Mission, Srimal Wickramasinghe and Sri Lanka’s Honorary Consuls Edith Hornig from Graz, Gerhard Huber from Salburg and Peter Gabelac from Slovakia.

One of the highlights of the event was a short documentary presented by well known traveler Josef Puchinger who shared photos and experiences of his travels across Sri Lanka. The documentary provided a wonderful visual introduction to the island, which was supported by an exhibition of photographs by a young Sri Lankan photographer, Rakhitha Nikahetiya.

Participants were also offered an opportunity to taste from a buffet of traditional Sri Lankan food. Many of those who visited Sri Lanka enjoyed the opportunity to experience the island’s gastronomic delights once again while listening to the lilting tunes of Sri Lankan baila.

Guests also enjoyed complimentary ayurvedic treatment from Siddhalepa Spas.

Other prizes on offer included meals at “Curry Insel” and “Curry Up”, two Sri Lankan restaurants in Vienna and hampers of Sri Lankan tea, spices and ayurvedic products.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Vienna and supported by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau with publicity provided by Radio Wien.
