A four member Official Delegation led by Mr. Harin De S. Wijeyratne, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Institute of Nano Technology (SLINTEC) visited Sydney from 18 to 21 March, 2018.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney organised a networking event with Sri Lankan Professional Diaspora on 18th March, 2018 for an interaction between SLINTEC officials and the Sri Lankan Diaspora members. Consul General Lal Wickrematunge, welcoming the Sri Lankan professionals, stressed the importance of the support to be extended by Sri Lankan Diaspora members in Australia for future research and development in Nano Technology undertaken by SLINTEC. Mrs. Himalee Arunatilaka, Deputy High Commissioner delivered the Message of H.E. the High Commissioner Somasundaram Skandakumar.
Mr. Harin De S. Wijeyratne, CEO of SLINTEC made a presentation on SLINTEC and explained the active support options available for Sri Lankan Diaspora to cooperate with future development of Nano Technology in Sri Lanka. Professor Gehan Amaratunge, Chief of Research & Innovation of SLINTEC made a detailed presentation on strategic direction and the research development programme undertaken by SLINTEC. It was a very informative and productive session for both Sri Lankan officials as well as Sri Lankan Diaspora members in Sydney to learn about the update new developments that are taking place in Sri Lanka. More than 100 Sri Lankan Diaspora professionals attended the event and actively interacted with the Sri Lankan delegation.
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney also arranged meetings with and visits to the University of Sydney Nano Hub and the University of Wollongong Innovation Campus on 19 and 20 March, 2018. The Sri Lankan delegation had productive meetings with Dr. Susan Pond, Director of The University of Sydney Nano Institute and Professor Tim Marchant, Dean of Research and relevant professors of the University of Wollongong Innovation Campus during their visits to the Universities.
The visit of SLINTEC delegation was initiated by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Canberra. The major objective of the visit of SLINTEC delegation to Australia was to make awareness on the Nano Technology research and development taking place in Sri Lanka, and to seek ways and means of future cooperation with Sri Lankan Diaspora members and Nano Technology Institutes in Australia.
The SLINTEC delegation also visited other cities in Australia, such as; Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne.
