On April 23, 2019 VIII Moscow Conference on International Security,organized annually by Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation,started its three-day event. At the Welcome cocktail reception the Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Colonel General Alexander Fomin expressed words of condolence and sympathy to people of New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka,who had suffered acts of terrorism most recently.In his speech General Fomin noted that peace is still not solid and Russia is committed to “the eradication of terrorism from the face of Earth”.
Launched in 2012Moscow Conference on International Security has become a highly reputed platform for discussions and sharing views on the most pressing issues of global and regional security.
This year MCIS brought together over 1000 delegates from 111 countries, including Defence Ministers, chiefs of general staff, delegations from defence ministries, leaders of International Organizations, such as CIS, CSTO, SCO, UN, OSCE and ICRC, and nongovernment experts,to exchange opinions on key military and political topics. The Conference will address issues of utmost significance in terms of modern military challenges, missile defence, cyber threats, outerspace militarization, international peace-keeping, threats posed by international terrorism and new approaches to security cooperation and security issues in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America and difficulties in global and regional stability, recovering of Syria and Iraq.
On the first day of the eighth Moscow Conference on International Security Ambassador Jayatilleka and the Sri Lankan Delegation represented by Mr. N.K.G.K Nammawatta, Secretary (State Ministry of Defence) and Mr. Wimal S.K. Liyanagama, Senior Assistant Secretary (Defence), participated in the bilateral meeting with the Russian Deputy Minister of Defence. The meeting was followed by the Round table discussion on Military dangers and threats in modern world. H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, received an individual invitation from the Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Colonel General Alexander Fomin to participate in the 3-day conference.
