Religious Ceremony – Sri Lanka Embassy in Yangon

Sri Lanka Embassy in Yangon organized an unveiling ceremony of “Buddha Statue” which is donated by H.E. the President of Sri Lanka at the Bo Maluwa in the Embassy Compound.  It was followed by an almsgiving to Maha Sangha on 25th November at the Residence.

This special religious ceremony was coincided with invoking blessings on His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, to mark the first anniversary of the second term of office of the President of Sri Lanka and on his 66th birthday.

Ambassador emphasized that liberation of the motherland from LTTE terrorists and steering the country towards peace and prosperity has held the South Asian region also to restore harmony and stability.

The Sri Lankan Buddhist monks Ven. Gonahene Uttarananda Thero, Ven. Koskandawile Pannavansa Thero and the Vietnamese monks who studying in the International Therawada Buddhist University in Myanmar conducted this ceremony.

Ven. Monk thanked the HE the President for uniting Sri Lanka after 30 years of separatists’ war and all the Sri Lankans are ever grateful to him and monk stressed that His Excellency is following Emperor Asoka’s foot steps to foster Buddhism in other country.

Gathering of the Sri Lankans living in Yangon and Myanmar nationals with their family members, Embassy staff has successfully arranged this noble event.
