Promotion of Sri Lanka IT Industry in Sweden

The Sri Lanka Embassy in Stockholm, in partnership with Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service companies (SLASSCOM) organized two business networking events in Stockholm and in Linköping on 01 and 02 October 2019.  ­Calcey Technologies, Eyepax and Varacity.AI  represented Sri Lankan IT Industry at the events.

These two events were part of a series of initiatives being taken by the Embassy under the Economic Diplomacy Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  In his remarks, Ambassador Sudantha Ganegama Arachchi stated that Sri Lanka is an emerging regional business hub with a growing IT sector capable of providing talents, partnerships and business opportunities for Swedish IT sector.  He invited Swedish companies to explore vast potential of the IT industry in Sri Lanka and to establish business links with the Sri Lankan companies.  Thomas Söld, Vice President of IFS, leading Swedish IT company was invited to make a presentation on the theme, “Doing Business with Sri Lanka : Swedish Perspective”.  He explained why Sri Lanka was selected for locating its business operation in Sri Lanka and how Sri Lankan IT professionals and the business climate contributed to the success of the company.  Currently, the IFS undertakes more than 60% of the software development in Sri Lanka, employing more than 1300 IT professionals.   His presentation had a positive impact on the Swedish companies present at the event as he shared actual business experiences leading to the success of IFS. From the marketing forum of the SLASSCOM Mudith Uswatta made a presentation giving an overview of the Sri Lankan IT industry, its potential and capabilities for meeting the needs of booming Swedish IT sector.

The luncheon networking event in Linköping was also organized by the Embassy in partnership with Mjärdevi Science Park, which is one the leading Science parks in Sweden, facilitating IT business growth and networking. Mayor of Linköping Lars Vikinge graced the occasion, and during his remarks, appreciated the efforts of the Sri Lanka Embassy to develop more business links between Sri Lanka and Sweden, especially companies in Linköping.  Following the presentations, discussions were held between the interested Swedish IT companies and the Sri Lankan representatives.
