President of Afghanistan to undertake State visit to Sri Lanka

The President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E Mr. Hamid Karzai will be undertaking a State visit to Sri Lanka from 5th to 7th March 2014, at the invitation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. It may be noted that this visit which was scheduled to take place last month, had to be postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

A ceremonial welcome will be accorded to the visiting dignitary at the Presidential Secretariat on 6th March 2014, followed by bilateral talks between the two leaders. Three Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries for cooperation in training of Afghan nurses in Sri Lanka, Education and Sports are due to be signed during the visit.  This will be the first-ever State visit to Sri Lanka by the President of Afghanistan. President Karzai would be accompanied by a high powered delegation including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Higher Education, Labour and Public Health.
