Port of call and goodwill visit in Manila by Sri Lanka Navy OPV P627

Sri Lanka Navy’s newly acquired Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) P627 (Ex USCG Douglas Munro) made a port of call in Manila for a goodwill visit from 12 to 16 October 2022.

In further enhancing the naval diplomacy between Sri Lanka and the Philippines, Captain (G) DMCLB Dissanayake, Commanding Officer (Desig) of OPV P627, paid a courtesy call on Rear Admiral Caesar Bernard N. Valencia, Acting Flag Officer-in-Command of the Philippines Navy, on 13 October 2022.

The captain and crew also extended an invitation to the Embassy Officials and Staff as well as to the Sri Lankan expatriates living in Manila for a Sri Lankan evening onboard OPV P627 on 12 October 2022. Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera reciprocated their hospitality by inviting the staff officers to a dinner at the Sri Lanka residence on 14 October 2022.

This is the country’s second navy ship to visit the Philippines. In April 2019, the Sri Lanka Navy Ship P626 made its first-time goodwill visit to Manila.
