The Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League conducted its General Meeting at the Diet [Parliamentarians] Members Office Building on 4th December, 2013. Approximately, 30 Members of Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentary League, both from the House of Councillors [Upper House] and from the House of Representatives [Lower House], were present at the Meeting. The League has a total number of 81 Members consisting of 53 Members from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party [LDP], 17 from the main Opposition Party, Democratic Party of Japan [DPJ] and from other political parties.

New Year Celebrations in Tokyo

The Sri Lankan New Year celebrations were held in Tokyo’s Chofu city on Sunday, 14th April with a large gathering of over 5000 Sri Lankan and Japanese community members from all parts of Japan who participated at the occasion, which was held for the 24th consecutive occasion. The Chief Guest at the opening ceremony was Hon.Yoshiki Nagatamo, Mayor of Chofu City.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo commemorated the 65th anniversary of Independence at the Reiyukai hall in Tokyo on Monday 4th February, amidst a large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriates and Japanese officials including Hon. Yasuo Fukuda, Former Prime Minister of Japan who graced the occasion as Chief Guest of the ceremony.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan and the Association of Sri Lankan Academics in Japan, in cooperation with Sri Lanka Students’ Association, Sri Lanka Business Council and Professionals’ Association in Japan, organized an International Conference titled “Emerging Sri Lanka: Prospects for Development & Reconciliation” at the premises of the Embassy. Approximately 80 guests and participants attended the conference including  Sri Lankan experts and academics from Japan and from other South Asian countries.
