“One Laptop One Dream” Sri Lanka Embassy, Beijing brings a Computer Donation programme to Sri Lanka funded by Hong Kong

The Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing has made arrangements with the cooperation of the University Grant Commission in Sri Lanka to donate 50 LENOVO computers to a group of university students who had shown academic performance in G.C.E. A/L under the “One Laptop One Dream” programme conducted by the South-South Education Foundation (SSEF) based in Hong Kong.

The donation ceremony will be held at 0900hrs on 13th September 2017 in the Auditorium of the University Grant Commission of Sri Lanka with the participation of Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, Minister of Higher Education. Ms. Jenny Zhen YAO, Deputy Director General of the South-South Education Foundation will attend the ceremony representing the Hong Kong side.

This donation is arranged to stimulate the signed Memorandum of Understanding on “One Laptop One Dream” Computer Donation on 12th December 2016 in Hong Kong by Dr. Zhong WU, Vice President and Director General of South-South Education Foundation (SSEF) and H.E. Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Beijing.

The name of Ms. R.M. Saumya Udeshika also has been included to the list of students receiving computers, who was able to enter into the University from Kotamuduna Maha Vidyalaya, Monaragala after her story was highlighted by the Media.

South-South Education Foundation (SSEF) is a public education charity foundation with the purpose of contributing to the sustainable development through education, and cultural exchange.  The Embassy is in the process of establishing contacts with the funding organizations to uplift the Education sector of Sri Lanka.
