The High Commissioner and the Staff of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra officially commenced work in the New Year on 1 January 2019 with a special ceremony.
At this event, the National Anthem was sung and a two-minutes silence was observed in remembrance of the national heroes who scarified their lives for the motherland. After the traditional oil lamp was lit by all employees, the oath of the Public Servants was read, which was followed by the High Commissioner’s address to the Staff. After wishing all a happy and prosperous New Year, the High Commissioner requested the staff members to continue to work with dedication and discharge their duties efficiently and effectively in the coming year. The High Commissioner also extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Deputy High Commissioner Senarath Dissanayake and wished him a rewarding term in office.
At this event, Dana was also offered to the Maha Sangha at the Canberra Buddhist Vihara. The Chief Incumbent of the Vihara chanted Seth Pirith and invoked blessings on the High Commissioner, the Mission Staff and the people of Sri Lanka.
