North America Division
The North America Division is tasked with coordinating maters connected with Sri Lanka’s bilateral relations with the United States of America and Canada, focused on political, economic, education and other spheres. The Division, through the four Bilateral Missions located in the US and Canada monitors the political and socio-economic developments in the respective countries.
Sri Lanka’s resident bilateral representation in the United States includes Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Washington DC and the Consulate General in Los Angeles. Sri Lanka’s resident representation in Canada includes Sri Lanka’s High Commission in Ottawa, and the Consulate General in Toronto.
The Division is engaged in facilitating a robust relationship with these two countries encompassing the entire gamut of Sri Lanka’s relations through several mechanisms/ tasks/ programmes, inter alia, incoming and outgoing high level and official visits, Annual Partnership dialogues. The Division serves as the first point of contact for communication with resident Missions of the two countries based in Colombo on matters relating bilateral matters. The tasks include coordination and taking forward initiatives in partnership with line agencies of the Government of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Missions overseas and, where necessary, with the resident Missions in Colombo.
