This is directly due to the government’s success in convincing these countries, and a considerable swath of the globe, of the gross injustice done to Sri Lanka by this so-called investigation

Today the confidence placed in the government of Sri Lanka by the entire Asian region is such that no Asian country is likely to permit members of the panel going through the motions of an investigation against Sri Lanka, to enter their territory for this purpose. Does anyone believe that this was a decision arrived at by chance or accident, Minister of External Affairs, Professor G.L. Peiris, who visited the Kurunegala District over the week-end inquired.

On the contrary, this is directly due to the government’s success in convincing these countries, and a considerable swath of the globe, of the gross injustice done to Sri Lanka by this so-called investigation, which is merely a political exercise designed to serve vested interests, he said.

The Minister was addressing a series of rallies in the Dambadeniya and Katugampola areas. Minister for Irrigation and Water Resources Management, Nimal Siripala de Silva, presided over the meeting. The truth will triumph in the end, despite all the financial resources and political muscle being made use of in their campaigns by those who are determined to harm our country, he continued. He cited the public remarks by a recent visitor to the country the Foreign Minister of Tanzania, who is also Chairman of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, as reflecting strong support for Sri Lanka.

He said the FM had remarked that the international investigation had painted a false picture of Sri Lanka, and stands in stark contrast with the reality he had observed on the ground. The visiting dignitary had added that our country’s achievements during the last five years exceeded by far what had been accomplished in postconflict situations in other parts of the world, even during the span of several decades, the minister commented.
