A sapling of“Nil Manel” – Nymphaea nouchali- the National flower of Sri Lanka was presented to the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) on 28 June 2019 to be placed and nurtured at the Bogor Botanical gardens, Indonesia.
Dr Mrs Nur Tri Aries Suestiningtyas, Executive/Principal Secretary of Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) received the sapling from Sri Lanka’s Ambassdor to Indonesia and ASEAN Dharshana M Perera on Friday.
Two sides agreed to consider a Memorandum of Understanding to establish focused cooperation on Scientific, Research and Technical Cooperation.
The presentation of the Nil Manel sapling follows the earlier planting of the “Na” –mesua Ferrea- sapling, the National Tree of Sri Lanka at the Bogor Botanical Gardens on 02 July 2018.
The “Nil Manel” plant was generated and nurtured by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta following the provision of a plant by the Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya. The mother plant is placed at the Chancery premises at Jalan Diponegoro, Menteng, Jakarta.
