Hon Marise Payne, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs attended the Special Memorial Mass held at the St Mary’s Cathedral on 26th April 2019 and offered condolences to Consul General Mr Lal Wickrematunge in the wake of the Easter Sunday attacks which caused extensive lost of life and injuries to many more.
Hon Minister participated at the Special Memorial Service presided over by the Most Rev Dr Anthony Fisher Archbishop of Sydney and following the Mass the silent candle light vigil organized by the Consulate General together with the Sri Lankan community in Sydney.
At the St Mary’s Cathedral Hon Minister Marise Payne also signed the Condolence Book which was kept open by the Consulate General for the dignitaries attending the Mass.
Writing in the condolence book Foreign Minister Hon Marise Payne stated that,
" The prayers and thoughts of Australia are with Sri Lanka. We mourne with you and the families and friends of those lost in these attacks. On behalf of the Australian Government our most sincere condolences."
Consul General Mr Lal Wickrematunge appreciated the sentiments expressed by the Hon Minister for Foreign Affairs, support extended by the Australian Government and sympathised with the Australians for the loss of two Sri Lankan - Australian dual citizens following these attacks.
