The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Sydney organised a Media Briefing on Sri Lanka Tourism Industry revival post Easter Sunday terror attacks to members of the Foreign Correspondents Association in Australia & South Pacific Association (FCA) on Tuesday, 21 May 2019 at the Consulate General Office. Eight members of the FCA participated at the interactive Media Briefing Session followed by a Sri Lankan authentic lunch.
Consul General Lal Wickrematunge and Consul Commercial Abdul Raheem briefed the media personnel on the current status of Sri Lanka Tourism Industry and the crisis recovery programme undertaken by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to bring back foreign travellers to Sri Lanka.
The tragic events on Easter Sunday interrupted a decade of peace and prosperity in the Island and Sri Lanka Tourism was quick to assure the foreign correspondents that the Sri Lankans are best at moving forward swiftly. Tourism is strategically important to Sri Lanka’s economy and is the 3rd largest foreign revenue generator employing 500,000 individuals in the country.
The media personnel were convinced and satisfied with the action taken by the Sri Lankan authorities in ensuring the security and safety for tourists visiting Sri Lanka. They were also briefed on upcoming tourism promotional activities that are planned in Australia to promote Sri Lanka as a destination during the rest of the year.
