Maldives has reiterated its continuous support to Sri Lanka in the international arena.
Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon, who is currently in Sri Lanka on an official visit, pledged the assurance during a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday.
“On the international front, let me assure you of the Maldives’ continuous support,” Dhunya Maumoon said during the meeting at Temple Trees.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today that Foreign Minister conveyed good wishes from the Government and people of the Maldives to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka, during a courtesy call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday.
Minister Dunya’s visit to Sri Lanka is in answer to an invitation extended by Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka Prof. G.L. Peiris, to attend an event hosted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth to celebrate the Cultural Diversity of the Commonwealth.
During her visit, Maldives Foreign Minister also met with diplomats from the EU, UK, Saudi Arabia, France and Kuwait, based in Sri Lanka, accredited to the Maldives.
