Ambassador E. Rodney M. Perera, along with Embassy staff, met and congratulated R.S. Kasmira Jayaweera who won the “Most Peaceful Prize” for her eloquent presentation on peacebuilding at the 04th Children’s World Peace Summit held in Tokyo on 01 August 2023 at the International Conference Hall in the First Members’ Office Building at the House of Representatives of Japan. This event was organized by the Hiroshima-based World Peace Realization Project; Peace Piece Project, established for the Promotion of Peace Learning: Creating textbooks for peace education and Raising children who create peace. This forum is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Hiroshima Prefectural Board of Education.
At this year's Children's World Peace Summit, more than 200 ideas for creating peace were submitted from 20 countries, and 12 child representatives were selected from among them to give speeches at the International Conference Hall of the House of Representatives.
Kasmira Jayaweera, a student of Veyangoda Bandaranayake Central College was selected from Sri Lanka to be amongst the 12 youth representatives from all over the world who delivered speeches on their ideas to create world peace. The theme of Ms. Jayaweera’s speech was “Listening to other people, learning and realizing the reality of the world and life”. Other child representatives delivering speeches were from Japan, Nepal, France, Lithuania, Malaysia, USA, and Cote d Ivoire.
The Children's World Peace Summit, held annually since 2020 aims to raise children as future leaders who will contribute to creating world peace and build a planet where children can live in peace. At the EXPO 2025 Osaka-Kansai, the Organizers of this Summit aim to hold a Children’s World Peace Summit with 100 million children from 100 countries around the world.
Representative of General Incorporated Association/ Peace Piece Project Taeko Tada also congratulated Ms. Jayaweera on her exemplary ideas and speech. The panel of judges of the Summit included renowned veteran diplomats, astronauts, media personalities and innovators from Japan.
