The 71st Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka was celebrated at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta joined by Sri Lankan community in Indonesia.
The event commenced with hoisting of national flag followed by singing of the national anthem in Sinhala and Tamil. Two minutes silence was observed in remembrance of national heroes, war heroes and all those who have sacrificed their lives to the motherland.
The ceremonies continued with lighting of the traditional Sri Lankan oil lamp by the Ambassador, members of community of all denominations, representation of the Armed forces, Embassy staffers and children. The country, leaders and the people were blessed during the Buddhist, Hindu, Islam and Christian religious observances conducted by the religious leaders.
Independence Day messages of HE President followed by Hon Prime Minister and Hon Foreign Minister were read in Sinhala, Tamil and English.
Event concluded with serving of "Dana" to the religious priests and leaders and morning reception included with Sri Lankan sweetmeats for the community.
