On 15 February 2020, the Sri Lankan Students Union of the RUDN University organized the Miss Sri Lanka – Russia 2020 “Sri Lankan Beauty” Contest, which was held in the framework of the Sri Lanka week in the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia RUDN, Moscow.
The contestants represented the RUDN University, Tver State Medical Universiy, Moscow Aviation University, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow), Russian State Geological Prospecting University (Moscow), Russian State Hydrometeorological University (Saint Petersburg).
Hasini Premathilake, RUDN, was crowned as Miss Sri Lanka – Russia, while the other winners in the corresponding nominations are as follows: Runner-up –Dilini Bandara, Most popular –Binuri Hendawitharana, Miss Confidence –. Shashini Dissanayake, Miss Kandian –Kushani Dissanayake, Best Smile –Nilani Karunasinghe.
The event became an impressive finale of the large-scale performance by the student community of the RUDN University to promote Sri Lankan heritage, culture and traditions among the multinational community of the University. The participants organized a colourful show and performed national dances and songs, sketches and artistic performances.
Counsellor, Defence Gp Capt Uditha Piyasena, Second Secretary (Political Affairs) Nirosha Herath and Chathurika Perera (Trade) and other home based staff also represented the Embassy in the jury together with Associate professor of the History Department of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas O. V. Karimov, Colonel of the General Staff of Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and Candidate of Philological Sciences of the RUDN University I. A. Arsenyeva.
On behalf of the Embassy Nirosha Herath addressed the gathering congratulating and encouraging the students.
