High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan calls on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan Admiral Ravindra C Wijegunaratne called on the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza at Joint Staffs Headquarters in Rawalpindi on 09 January 2024.

On the arrival at JSHQ, the High Commissioner was warmly welcomed and received by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza along with his principal staff officers.

The two dignitaries had a cordial and lengthy discussion on friendly diplomatic relations between the two countries that span over decades.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee stressed and lauded the unwavering support extended by Sri Lanka to Pakistan in hour of need. Moreover, he emphasized the fact that the cornerstone of diplomatic relation between the two countries are based on the long standing defence relationship. Further, he pledged the continues support to Sri Lanka and praised the strong leadership of the President of Sri Lanka. He also extended his greetings to the National Security Advisor, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defense Staff and three service Commanders of Sri Lanka.

In response, High Commissioner Wijegunaratne expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s unstinted support to eradicate the menace of terrorism from Sri Lanka and  thanked for the support extended to the defence sector including extensive training opportunities and facilities provided by Pakistan to Sri Lankan military officers. He also assured of the continues support for Pakistan in all possible ways and praised the political and military leadership of Pakistan.

Minister Counsellor (Defence) of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Islamabad Brigadier Kaminda Silva accompanied the High Commissioner, whilst Lieutenant General Ahsen Gulrez HI(M), Director General Joint Staff and few other Staff Officers at office of CJCSC attended the discussion.
