High Commissioner Noordeen Mohamed Shaheid presented Letters of Credence to President of Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov at the White House, the Presidential Secretariat in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic on 09 October 2019 accrediting him as Non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Kyrgyz Republic, based in Islamabad, Pakistan.
The ceremony entailed by a Guard of Honour followed by presentation of credentials. The Ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary U.L. Niyas. Following the presentation of the letter of credentials, one on one meeting was held between the President and the Ambassador.
Ambassador Noordeen Shaheid conveyed greetings of President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena to the President of Kyrgyz Republic. Reciprocating to the greetings of the President of Sri Lanka, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed his keenness to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries and in expanding relations in trade, educational, economic, cultural, humanitarian and political spheres. He also showed interest in attracting investments and supporting entrepreneurship, while expressing his confidence that the professional experience of the Ambassador would contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov appreciated Sri Lanka’s achievements in tourism and textile industries after having defeated terrorism in the country. Discussions ranged covering areas of mutual interest such as enhancing trade and commerce, tourism, and education and sharing experiences in the field of expertise. It was noted that Sri Lanka maintained a surplus balance in the trade between two countries and President stressed that the trade and investment will be treated as more prioritized areas in the future. Ambassador highlighted the potentials and opportunities available in Sri Lanka, given its market access, geo strategic location, logistics and infrastructure.
Noordeen Shaheid was a practicing lawyer by profession prior to his diplomatic assignment and carries with him more than 35 years of experience in the field of law. He also had served as Chairman of numerous state institutions such as National Enterprise Development Authority, Intellectual Property Advisory Commission, National Institute of Cooperative Development, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Agency and Consumer Affairs Council to name a few.
