The National Cricket Team of Sri Lanka who is on a tour in India, is presently in New Delhi for their next test match. During their visit to the city, the High Commissioner of New Delhi Mrs. Chitranganee Wagiswara hosted a dinner reception for the visiting national team from Sri Lanka. The team is headed by the Manager, Asanka Gurusinghe and the team Captain Dinesh Chandimal.
At the opening of the dinner reception, the High Commissioner remarked that Cricket is a popular game in Sri Lanka as well as in South Asia and that the game is also a unifying factor in a multi-cultural country while stating that the unity, team spirit and sportsmanship provide an inspiration to the youth of the country, the High Commissioner added that the young team is going through challenging times, but Sri Lanka is confident that they will rise to the challenge. She wished the team all the best for the test match which is starting on 02nd December 2017.
Several political figures such as Dr. Udit Raj, MP Lok Sabha and Vijay Jolly, MP, diplomats from cricket playing nations, journalists from the print media, academics and members of the business community as well as Sri Lankans living in New Delhi were also present at the reception.
The Sri Lankan team will play its third test match with India at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi, starting on 2nd December 2017.
The 15-member Sri Lankan Cricket team arrived in India in November for a series of three test matches, three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI series will begin on 10th December and the first match will be played in Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.The T20I series will be played on 20,22 and 24 December 2017, in Cuttack,Indore and Mumbai respectively.
