The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore ceremonially commenced work on 01 January 2025 with the chanting of seth pirith by the Venerable Theros of the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple in Singapore.
The ceremony officially commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem. A two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of all those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
The Mission staff then joined the launching of the “Clean Sri Lanka” national programme live-streamed from the Presidential Secretariat, and took the “Clean Sri Lanka Oath”, pledging to uphold the principles of unity, accountability, frugality, transparency, and equality, free from cast, religious or political prejudices, and affirmed their commitment as public officials to create a thriving country and a beautiful life for the citizens of Sri Lanka.
Addressing the staff, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Singapore highlighted the salient points of the President’s new year message and outlined the government’s developmental priorities, including eradication of rural poverty, implementation of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, and building a digital economy. The High Commissioner also emphasized the government’s commitment to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency of the public service using digitalization as a key tool. Moreover, he underscored the importance of creating a more citizen-centred public service.
Further, the High Commissioner appreciated the hard work and dedication demonstrated by the staff of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore throughout the year 2024 and encouraged them to continue working as a team to achieve the targets for the new year, especially being in a time when the country demands the active contribution and commitment of public servants. In addition, the importance of prioritizing trade, investment and tourism promotion activities, and exploring foreign employment opportunities for Sri Lankans to support the country’s economic development was also emphasized by the High Commissioner.
The ceremony concluded with a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast to mark the dawn of the new year. The visitors who had come to obtain the services of the High Commission were also treated to refreshments.
