High Commission of Sri Lanka in Male organizes a blood donation programme

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Male organized a blood donation event at the Maldivian Blood Services Center on 28 June 2024 in commemoration of the Poson Full Moon Poya and the World Blood Donor Day showcasing the commitment to saving lives through voluntary blood donations.

The event was graced by the presence of Maldivian Minister of State for Health Aminath Shirma.

In his opening remarks, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Maldives Ranga Goonawardena  said that the event was truly remarkable and a significant involvement that enhances the relationship between Sri Lanka and Maldives. He extended his gratitude to the Maldivian government and the officials of the Maldivian Blood Services for their assistance in making the event successful.  The High Commissioner appreciated the commitment of the staff of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Male, the Sri Lankan community in Maldives and the officials of the Bank of Ceylon Male branch in organizing the event.

Minister of State for Health of Maldives Aminath Shirna thanked the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Male,  Sri Lankan blood donors in Maldives,  and the Maldivian Blood Services Centre for their effective coordination of the blood donation initiative. She underscored the significance of consistent voluntary non-remunerated blood donation in ensuring a steady supply of blood for emergency situations across the islands.

The event took place with the participation of approximately 60 Sri Lankans who volunteered to donate blood.
