Experts representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Foreign Employment Bureau and the Board of Investment conducted an interactive workshop on the role of economic diplomacy, strategies for attracting investments, exploring markets for Sri Lankan products and services overseas, enhancing tourism and promotion of foreign employment opportunities. The focus was on the role of Sri Lanka Missions overseas in this effort. The workshop held at the Foreign Ministry on 13 November was a component of Sri Lanka’s diplomatic outreach in line with the Economic Diplomacy Programme of the Ministry.
Addressing the participants, Foreign Secretary Aruni Wijewardane pointed out that the discussion was intended to cover a range of topics and approaches that would benefit Sri Lankan diplomats when serving in Sri Lanka Missions overseas, particularly under the current circumstances where economic diplomacy is vital. Commencing the workshop Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Deshal De Mel as Guest Speaker outlined suggestions for the way forward towards ‘Economic Diplomacy 2.0’
The workshop included participants from the Sri Lanka Foreign Service as well from Sri Lanka Administrative Service and Sri Lanka Accountants’ Service currently serving in the Ministry. Director General Economic Affairs, M.E.M. Weninger moderated the discussion.
