The first Assembly of the Sri Lankan Bhikkhu Association in Europe was inaugurated in Vienna on 13 May 2023.
Over 50 Buddhist Theros from Austria, Bangladesh, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Japan, Italy, Malaysia, Norway, Sri Lanka, Sweden and Switzerland gathered in Vienna for the 3-day Assembly.
With the advice and guidance of Most Venerable Dr. Wijayarajapura Seelawansa Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Dhamma-Zentrum Nyanaponika in Austria, the Sri Lankan Bhikkhu Association in Europe was established with a view to progress collectively towards propagation of Buddhism in Europe.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka His Excellency Majintha Jayesinghe and Her Excellency Varuni Muthukumarana, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Germany were among the speakers at the first assembly.
