Embassy of Sri Lanka organizes free Medical Camp for Sri Lankan community in Bahrain

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain and the Sri Lanka Engineering Society (SLES) in partnership with the American Mission Hospital organized a medical camp on 01 May 2024 at the Embassy premises to mark the International Labour Day.

This annual community outreach event was held for the 7th consecutive year. The event commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Bahrain, the representatives of the American Mission Hospital and the Engineering Society. During the event, over 200 members of the Sri Lankan community received medical and clinical care including ophthalmological consultations, dental care and consultations, basic medical and preventive health care checkups provided by the medical team consisting of specialized doctors and nursing staff from the American Mission Hospital.  

Delivering his welcome remarks, President of the Sri Lankan Engineering Society Indika Prasanna Kumara spoke of the significance of the free medical camp as a community outreach activity to recognize the valuable contribution of the Sri Lankan migrant workers for the  country's socio economic development.

Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Bahrain Rithi Wijeratne Mendis red out the International Labour day message of the President of Sri Lanka and stated that protection of the rights of the migrants and ensuring their safety, security and welfare is the cornerstone of the  Sri Lankan government's safe migration policy.

The Ambassador thanked the Sri Lankan Engineering Society and the American Mission Hospital for their valuable contribution for the welfare of the Sri Lankan migrant workers and their families in Bahrain.

Mementos were presented to Zainab Abdulla of the American Mission Hospital and President of the Engineering Society Indika Prasanna by Ambassador Wijeratne Mendis as a token of appreciation.
