Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C. are pleased to announce a July program designed specifically for young people who are interested in learning first-hand about Sri Lanka’s history and current affairs.

The Global Youth Ambassador’s Program will feature a 15-day trip in July 2011 to Sri Lanka from Washington, D.C. Participants must be between the ages of 16 and 22.

The itinerary will include time spent with rural school children & Colombo school children, and visits to the Eastern Province, a rehabilitation center, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Parliament, a tea plantation and historical sites.

“This will give our young people the chance to see Sri Lanka for themselves,”  said Ambassador Wickramasuriya. “Many have never been to Sri Lanka – they have only read about it or heard about it from their parents. But they are all old enough to go and draw their own conclusions about reconciliation and progress taking place now.”
