The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C. hosted a vibrant Deepavali celebration, honouring the festival of lights. The ceremony, held on 30 October 2024 was officiated by Kurukkul Shankaran Sivacharyar, a Hindu priest from the Sri Siva Vishnu Temple in Maryland.
The event featured traditional Hindu rituals, where Kurukkal Sivacharyar invoked blessings on the Ambassador and the Embassy staff and wished prosperity to all Sri Lankans. The premises were adorned with intricate 'Kolam' designs and illuminated by lamps, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe extended his heartfelt greetings to Hindu devotees, emphasizing the significance of Deepavali as a celebration of knowledge triumphing over ignorance, and light prevailing over darkness.
The celebrations highlighted the spirit of unity and friendship within the diverse Sri Lankan community, while reinforcing the values of the festival, victory of good over evil and the dispelling of negativity.
