Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon conducts a Trade Bazaar parallel to the 71st Independence Day celebrations

As an integral part of the Economic Diplomacy Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Lebanon organized a trade bazaar from 05 to 08 February 2019 at the Embassy premises, in commemorating 71st Independence Day of Sri Lanka.

The event prominently focused on economic promotion, while providing opportunities to the Sri Lankan expatriates in Lebanon. The trade bazaar comprised of indigenous rice, spices, herbal products, Ceylon tea, food and delicacies, fruits and vegetables, art and craft, handcrafts and accessories. Sri Lankan food was served at the Bazaar with cookery demonstrations.

The trade bazaar was inaugurated by Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Lebanon Mrs. H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis with the guests of honour including Mr. Zaher Aridi of Economic Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants of Lebanon and Dr. M.M. Al Droubi, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Syria, as well as Representatives of the Bank of Ceylon and Commercial Bank of Sri Lanka in Lebanon.

On the sidelines of the event, social, cultural and geographical aspects of Sri Lanka were demonstrated through multimedia presentations, portraits, and brochures promoting Sri Lanka as a tourist destination. Head of Chancery Ms. W.W.C.S. Perera, delivered a brief speech on the aim of trade bazaar and the trade opportunities available in Sri Lanka for Lebanese businessmen.

The business entities in the public and private sector in Sri Lanka contributed to the event by supplying branded and innovative products made in Sri Lanka.
