Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu celebrates Vesak

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu celebrated Vesak on 12th May 2017 at the Embassy premises with the participation of the Embassy staff, their family members and the Sri Lankan community living in Kathmandu.

Ven. Gunagosha Thero, Purvaram Vihar in Nepal conducted Panchaseela and Gilanpasa Buddha puja.

Special Dhamma talk on "Significance of Vesak" was delivered by Ven. Kolitha Thero from Buddhabumi Vihar. Ven. Thero explained to the gathering the importance of Vesak. Throughout the month of May, and especially on the full moon day of May, Buddhists begin to celebrate the glory of the Buddha, His wisdom and His infinite love for all beings.

The Deputy Chief Sanganayaka of Nepal, Most. Ven. Gnanapurnika Maha Thero conducted the Pirith chanting with seventeen Chief monks and Nuns from different temples in Kathmandu. Ven. Sobitha Thero delivered the Punyaanumodana Dhamma Deshana which outlined the meaning of the Triple Festival of Vesak commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of the Buddha and importance of conducting Pirith Chanting and its merits.

Both the Embassy and the Official Residence were colourfully decorated with Buddhist flags and illuminated with Vesak lanterns and oil lamps by the staff of the Embassy in keeping with traditions of the festival.

Traditional refreshments were served to the gathering at the end of the programme.
