Embassy of Sri Lanka in Indonesia celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Indonesia celebrated the 75th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka on 04 February 2023 at the Embassy premises with the participation of the Sri Lankan community and friends of Sri Lanka in Indonesia.

The event commenced with the hoisting of National Flag by Ambassador-designate Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage followed by the singing of the national anthem. A two-minute silence was observed in honour of those who dedicated and sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

Keeping with Sri Lankan tradition, the lighting of the traditional oil lamp took place followed by multi-faith religious observances invoking blessings on the country and the people of Sri Lanka.  The Independence Day messages of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs were read by the Embassy staff in all three languages.

Addressing the gathering, Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage briefed the Sri Lankan community on the measures taken by the government to ensure the recovery of the economy and requested Sri Lankans living in Indonesia to join with the government to rebuild a progressive nation. Ambassador-designate Colombage emphasized that the Sri Lanka Embassy in Jakarta is committed to serving all Sri Lankans in Indonesia and requested them to consider the Embassy as their second home.

The members of the Sri Lankan community were served with a lunch at the end of the Ceremony.
