The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bucharest actively participated in the “IWA Christmas Charity Bazaar", organized by the International Association of Women (IWA), under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, on 10 December, 2023 in Bucharest.
This charitable initiative aimed to raise funds to help the most vulnerable people in Romania. The Charity Bazaar featured more than 50 stalls, representing Diplomatic Missions, international organizations, large enterprises and nonprofit organizations, based in Bucharest. This year's edition attracted more than 5000 visitors.
Covering different dimensions of Sri Lankan trade and tourism, the Embassy of Sri Lanka, together with the Sri Lankan nationals living in Romania, presented traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and Ceylon Tea at this unique gathering of local and foreign participants. An enthralling traditional dance was also performed on the stage by “Sri Thale” Sri Lanka Culture guild, which comprised of talented Sri Lankan youth, residing in Romania.
The first ever participation of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bucharest in this prestigious event, following the inauguration of its operations in Romania, received a very positive response from the visitors, business community and local media in Romania. This Charity Bazaar also paved the way for the new Embassy to establish business contacts and people to people engagement with potential entrepreneurs, travel agents and media personalities.
Funds generated by the Sri Lankan Embassy stall at the Bazaar were transferred to the International Women's Association.
