Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels celebrates Iftar

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels hosted the annual Iftar, the Muslim fast breaking ceremony, on Friday 26 August, 2011, as part of commemoration of the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan.

The Iftar prayer service was led by Mr. Izmeer Ahamat. Making a brief comment on the occasion, Ambassador highlighted that this yearly celebration of Iftar reflects the value Sri Lanka attaches to celebrating cultural diversity in a multi-religious society and also pointed out  the way that the community members, both Muslim and non-Muslim whom have come together to celebrate Iftar each year echoes the solidarity of the Sri Lankan community in Belgium.

The event was presided over by Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha and was attended by members of the Sri Lanka community, Muslim friends of Sri Lanka and members of staff of the Mission.

The Iftar religious prayer was followed by dinner prepared by members of the community and the staff of the Embassy.
