The Christmas celebration organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain and the Sri Lankan Catholic Community in Bahrain was held on Friday 22 December 2023 at the Embassy premises.
The event commenced with a prayer led by Reverend Father Bennette Shantha followed by Sister Sujanthani who invoked blessings on the Sri Lankan community, the Embassy and Sri Lanka. The Christmas carols performed by children and members of the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain added a festive atmosphere to the celebration.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Bahrain H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis extended felicitations to the Sri Lankan Catholic community for Christmas and conveyed her appreciation for the tireless efforts of the members of the community for organizing the Embassy's the first Christmas celebrations.
Speaking at the event, Reverend Father Bennette Shantha requested the Sri Lankan Catholic community to reflect on the message of Christmas. He invited the community of believers to be sensitive to the pain and suffering of the poor and the deprived, through sharing and caring while celebrating Christmas. Reverent Father Bennette Shantha conveyed his appreciation to the Ambassador and the Embassy staff for organizing the first Christmas celebration by the Embassy reflecting the multi-cultural and multi-religious nature of Sri Lanka and the religious harmony among the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain.
Refreshments were served to the participants at the conclusion of the event.
