Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow organized virtual celebration of Poson Full Moon Poya Day with a live broadcasting on Facebook.
On 24 June 2021, the Embassy organized a several-hours long special programme dedicated to this spiritual event.
The event started with a Damma Programme by Rev. Sooriyawewa Gnanadassi Thero in Sinhala with the translation to Russian by Rupasiri Perera, who explained in details the fundamental teachings of Lord Buddha.
The programme continued with Buddhist Devotional Songs by Singer Ilyas Baig, son of Kala Suri Alhaj Kareem Mohideen Baig, who sang for the audience live several songs. Singer Ilyas Baig made a short speech to all the audience and shared his appreciation for arranging the programme.
The second part of the event included the Damma Programme by Rev. Pallekande Ratanasara Thero in Russian Language with assistance of Rev. Kadigamuwe Anurudda Thero and with active participation of the Russian Buddhists, who followed Therawada Buddhism with great attention and did not hesitate to ask questions from Rev. Pallekande Ratanasara Thero.
The Poson celebrations were also graced by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Prof. M. D. Lamawansa. The Embassy would like to extend its gratitude to all participants of the programme who joined from Sri Lanka and Russia and all the Embassy staff, who participated in organization of this beautiful festival.
