On 9th July 2016, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Sweden celebrated the Eid festival, one of the two most important festivals in the Muslim calendar.
On the invitation of the Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Damayantie Rajapakse, the Sri Lankan Muslims together with their families living in Sweden participated at the dinner organized for the occasion.
In the speech delivered by the Ambassador, she elaborated the manner in which the Sri Lankan Muslims were a part and parcel of the social fabric of Sri Lanka and the contributions made by them for the development of the country from the historical times. Ambassador pointed out that Sri Lanka is now introducing Dual citizenship and as such requested this category of Sri Lankans to visit and invest in Sri Lanka. It was explained that the staff of the Embassy stands ready to extend support and cooperation to the expatriate community.
Depicting the multicultural aspect of Sri Lanka, the gathering was a reminder to these expatriates about the togetherness warmth and the friendliness among different communities living in Sri Lanka. In principle, the event was an opportunity for the Mission to reach out to these Sri Lankans for bridge building, closer partnership that will prove to be mutually beneficial for Sri Lanka as well as the Sri Lankan expatriates.
