East Asia Division
The East Asia and Oceania Division is responsible for maintaining bilateral relations with countries in East Asia and Oceania. The Division engages in advancing Sri Lanka’s interests by developing strategic partnerships, facilitating diplomatic dialogues, and supporting initiatives that contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
East Asia includes China, Japan, Republic of Korea and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The division focuses on fostering cooperation and partnerships in areas which include trade, investment, technology, and cultural exchange.
Oceania encompasses Australia, New Zealand, and a section of the Pacific Island nations: Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The Division works towards enhancing Sri Lanka’s engagement with these countries, promoting cooperation in sectors such as trade, tourism, education, and climate change. The Division is also entrusted with the task of maintaining relations with regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Bali Process and the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR).
