The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York hosted a well-attended reception for the diplomatic community and senior UN staff at its chancery premises on 4thFebruary to celebrate Sri Lanka’s 67th commemoration of Independence. This is the third consecutive year in which the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka celebrated its National Day in its own premises. The reception this year attracted over 300 guests, including Heads of Mission and other diplomats from UN member states, business personalities, bankers, community leaders, philanthropists, media personnel, educators and artists. Among the many countries and regions represented at ambassadorial level were ; The USA, Canada, Austria, UK, Ghana, Nigeria, Mozambique, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Italy, Argentina, Bosnia, Cuba, Brazil, Fiji, Colombia, Korea, The Secretariat, etc.
The guests were received by Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Dr. Palitha Kohona. A documentary on Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty was also screened.
The buffet dinner which reflected Sri Lanka’s distinct dishes, was greatly enjoyed by all.
Guests left with a gift bags containing cinnamon packs provided by the Spice Council and The Export Development Board, tea provided by the Sri Lanka Tea Board,and tourism promotion material gifted by the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority.
