The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York hosted a Diplomatic Reception at its chancery premises on 4thFebruary to celebrate Sri Lanka’s Independence Day. The event was attended by around 300 guests, including Heads of Mission and other diplomats from UN member states, the Deputy Secretary-General, representing the Secretary-General, business personalities, bankers, community leaders, philanthropists, media personnel, educators and artists.

The guests were received by Permanent Representative Dr. Palitha Kohona. Deputy Permanent Representative Major General Shavendra Silva and staff also participated. A documentary on Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty was screened. A buffet dinner was provided reflectingSri Lanka’s distinct dishes and was greatly enjoyed by all. Guests left with a gift pack of cinnamon provided by the Spice Council and Export Development Board, tea provided by the Sri Lanka Tea Board, material on investment oppertunities in Sri Lanka provided by Board of Investment, and tourism promotion material gifted by BT Options.
