Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai hosts Iftar

The Office of the Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai hosted Iftar (Breaking Fast Ceremony) at the Chancery premises on 23rd August 2011.  The Iftar began with the breaking of the fast at sunset and was followed by “Magrib Prayers” led by Mowlavi Kareemullah Quasifi of Ismalic Mosque at Eldams Road. After the prayers Mr. V. Krishnamoorthy, the Deputy High Commissioner welcoming the gathering referred to the importance of the Ramadan and stressed that respect towards each other’s religions and faiths is a noble principal practiced by pious people.

He further stated that Sri Lanka gives freedom and equal importance to the religious observations of all faiths and the Government of Sri Lanka headed by His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa espouses equal magnitude to all the religions.  Following that advocacy, the Office of the Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai has been observing the important festivals of all the religions of Sri Lanka and that tradition will be continued, he affirmed.

The invitees were also treated to a dinner comprising an array of Sri Lankan dishes.
