The Deputy High Commissioner, Dr.Venkateshwaran had a meeting with the Head ofField Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Southern India S.Valan Michael on 11 May 2023.
The Deputy High Commissioner discussed the issues pertaining to Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu and in particular the progress of their voluntary repatriation programme. The Mission has been working in close collaboration with the UNHCR in repatriating Sri Lankan refugees under UNHCR Refugee Repatriation Programme (RRP) and so far a number of refugees have availed the opportunity to return to Sri Lanka through RRP.
