Hon. Leszek Soczewica, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland who is visiting Sri Lanka from 5th to 7th October met with Hon. Harsha de Silva, Actg. Minister of Foreign Affairs today (06/10).
The meeting was followed by the signing of two agreements between Sri Lanka and Poland on Cooperation in the field of Tourism and Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on Income.
The Hon. Deputy Minister of Poland was accompanied by a 20 member delegation comprising officials of the Embassy of Poland in New Delhi and members of the business sector from Poland. A business forum was also arranged with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on 06th October providing an opportunity for those in business sectors to explore potential links.
A documentary titled “The curious case of Monsignor Zaleski in Kandy” was screened at the premises of the BMICH on 6th October. The documentary is about a Polish Archbishop who chose to establish a seminary in Kandy in 1893, highlighting the close links relations between the two countries, which is not generally known by the people.
The delegation also held meetings with Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industry and Commerce and Hon. K.C. Logeswaran, Governor of the Western Province.
