On the guidance of Consul General Justice A.W.A. Salam on 25 October 2019, “Deepawali festival was celebrated at the Sri Lanka Consulate in Jeddah with the participation of 250-300 Sri Lankans residing in Jeddah representing Hindu as well as Buddisht, Christians , Muslim community and non -national well-wishers.
“Deepawali” message of Consul General and the staff of Consulate General was read by two representatives of the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Sinhala and Tamil Languages respectively. It inter -alia carried the message that the “Hindu religious belief pertaining to “ Deepawali” rituals of devotion to God will have the impact of getting rid of all negative thoughts such as greed, jealousy and envy. Accordingly, it is considered as a religious festival of significance not only to the Hindus, but, for the people of all faith . “Deepawali” demonstrates the rich Tamil and Hindu heritage in Sri Lanka and its celebration is a symbol of peace, harmony and new hopes for the people”.
The Consulate premises was decorated attractively and traditional Hindu food was served to the participants.
The festival was concluded with the performance of Tamil cultural dancing and songs.
