Consular Affairs Division
- The Consular Affairs Division provides consular and other services to the general public and caters to consular and other needs of Sri Lankans who intend to travel abroad for employment, studies etc. and also to foreigners as appropriate.
- The Consular Affairs Division channels its services under categories such as Online Attestation System of Documents, Repatriation of Stranded and Destitute Sri Lankans Abroad, Repatriation of Human Remains of Sri Lankans, Securing Compensation and Other Entitlements on behalf of Deceased and Injured Sri Lankans Abroad and Miscellaneous Services.
- At present, the attestation process of documents, submitted to the Consular Affairs Division, is carried out through an innovative digital platform, based on cloud computing through e-DAS, aimed at improving and streamlining the service, with speedy verification process which is linked in real-time with Sri Lanka Missions abroad, Missions based in Colombo as well as other government institutions.
- As per the government policy, the Consular Affairs Division strives to take delivery of services to people in need both in Sri Lanka as well as abroad, in an efficient and effective manner, through digitalization of services and establishment of regional consular offices in Jaffna and Matara opened in 2017 and 2019 respectively and also by conducting mobile services both in Sri Lanka and foreign cities.
