At the invitation of the chief priest Ven. Shi Xinguang of Jingang Buddhist Temple, the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou, Priyangika Dharmasena visited the temple on 19 March 2019. The 6th largest temple in Guangzhou, the Jingang Temple was constructed during the Ming Dynasty and has a history of 650 years. Ven. Paranagama Thero, residing in Guangzhou and the coordinator for Buddhist affairs between Sri Lanka and Guangzhou City, accompanied the Consul General to the temple.
Jingang temple, while engaging in Buddhist activities, also teaches and promotes Chan and KongFu Culture and serves as a centre that teaches martial arts for mental and physical well-being.
The Jingang temple and Sri Lanka have been maintaining good relations from the past and many Buddhist leaders and high ranking government officials have visited the temple. The temple has cooperation with Sri Lanka in religious activities and Sri Lankan Buddhist events are also held there.
Consul General Dharmasena thanked the chief priest for the cooperation extended to Sri Lanka for Buddhist activities and the assistance rendered by the temple to organize Sri Lankan Buddhist events at the premises.
She hoped for further cultural exchanges between Sri Lanka Buddhist delegations and the temple as well as for further collaboration with the Consulate.
