The Ambassador of Sri Lanka along with Ambassadors of Algeria, Djibouti, Malta, Montenegro, and New Zealand handed over a common contribution of 123,500 Turkish Lira received from the diplomatic corps based in Ankara to be used for relief efforts for earthquake victims in Türkiye to AFAD President Yunus Sezer on 24 February 2023 at the AFAD Headquarters in Ankara.
AFAD is the Turkish agency responsible for disaster and emergency management functioning under the Turkish Presidency.
Deputy Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim, President of AFAD Yunus Sezer, Director General of South Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Oguzhan Ertugrul and Ambassadors of Djibouti, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand and Sri Lanka were present at the meeting and the handing over of the donation.
Considering the devastating earthquakes that Türkiye encountered on 06 February 2023, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Hasanthi Urugodwatte Dissanayake launched the initiative for the Ankara-based diplomats to make a contribution in solidarity with the host country and its people at a time of great catastrophe that has affected millions of people.
As the Dean of Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of Djibouti was involved in ensuring safety of over thousand Djiboutian nationals in the affected areas, with his support and many other Ambassadors, Ambassador Dissanayake took the responsibility of the coordination of the donation.
With much positive response and support from the diplomatic community, a token contribution of 123,500 Turkish Lira was collected by the diplomatic corps based in Ankara.
At the meeting to hand over the donation at AFAD, Deputy Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim and President of AFAD Yunus Sezer thanked the Ambassador of Sri Lanka for the initiative of a donation by the diplomatic corps and also thanked other ambassadors who have positively supported the idea to help victims of the earthquake. Further, he indicated that Türkiye will never forget nations which are standing by them during this unprecedented tragedy that the country has faced in modern times.
Further, Ambassador Dissanayake recalled that Türkiye has supported Sri Lanka during its difficult times, such as during aftermath of 2004 tsunami, and during extreme weather events, the COVID pandemic and most recently last year with medical supplies when the country was facing a shortage. She said that her contribution by way of coordinating this donation was a very small gesture of reciprocity. The ambassador also added that Sri Lankan disaster response teams are ready whenever they are needed to come and assist Türkiye.
The President of AFAD briefed the ambassadors present that from the eleven most affected areas by the earthquake more than 40,000 people have died, more than 14 million people and over 10,000 settlements have been affected. Further, temporary accommodation has been provided as of now to more than one million victims.
The Deputy Foreign Minister appreciated the role played by the international community with more than 80 countries sending teams for search and rescue operations alone, both by air and by land, which are coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He expressed his gratitude for the UN Humanitarian Appeal and also explained that Türkiye is facilitating aid to reach Syria.
After the meeting, the ambassadors were taken on a tour to the AFAD emergency coordination centre, where representatives of all relevant government agencies are working round the clock.
Ending the tour of the centre, the President of AFAD and the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed their appreciation for the heart-warming gesture by the diplomatic community in Ankara.

තුර්කියේ හටගත් භූ කම්පනයෙන් විපතට පත් වූවන්ට සහන සැලසීමේ කටයුතු සඳහා අන්කාරා හි සිටින රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික ප්‍රජාව පිරිනැමූ තුර්කි ලීරා 123,500 ක සාමූහික මූල්‍ය දායකත්වය තුර්කියේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපතිනිය සහ ඇල්ජීරියාව, ජිබුටි, මෝල්ටාව, මොන්ටිනිග්‍රෝ සහ නවසීලන්ත යන රටවල තානාපතිවරුන් විසින් 2023 පෙබරවාරි 24 දින අන්කාරා හි පිහිටි AFAD (ආපදා හා හදිසි කළමනාකරණ අධිකාරිය) මූලස්ථානයේ දී එහි සභාපති යූනුස් සේසර් මහතා වෙත පිළිගන්වන ලදී.
AFAD යනු තුර්කි ජනාධිපතිවරයා යටතේ ආපදා සහ හදිසි කළමනාකරණය සම්බන්ධයෙන් ක්‍රියාත්මක වන තුර්කි නියෝජිතායතනය යි.

2023 පෙබරවාරි 06 වැනි දින තුර්කියේ හටගත් ව්‍යසනකාරී භූ කම්පනය පිළිබඳව සැලකිලිමත් වූ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපති හසන්ති උරුගොඩවත්ත දිසානායක මැතිනිය, මිලියන ගණනක ජනතාවට බලපෑම් එල්ල කළ මෙම ව්‍යසනය හමුවේ සත්කාරක රට සහ එහි ජනතාව වෙනුවෙන් සහයෝගය දැක්වීම සඳහා අන්කාරා නුවර සිටින රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික ප්‍රජාව හරහා මූල්‍ය පරිත්‍යාගයක් පිරිනැමීම සඳහා වැඩසටහනක් ආරම්භ කළේ ය.
රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික බළකායේ ප්‍රධානියා වන ජිබුටි තානාපතිවරයා විපතට පත් ප්‍රදේශවල සිටින ජිබුටි ජාතිකයන් දහසකට අධික පිරිසකගේ ආරක්‍ෂාව තහවුරු කිරීමේ කටයුතුවලට සම්බන්ධ වී කටයුතු කළ බැවින්, එතුමාගේ සහ තවත් බොහෝ තානාපතිවරුන්ගේ සහය ලබා ගත් තානාපති දිසානායක මැතිනිය, මෙම පරිත්‍යාගයට අදාළ කටයුතු සම්බන්ධීකරණය කිරීමේ වගකීම භාරගත්තා ය.

මෙම පරිත්‍යාගය භාරදීම සඳහා AFAD හි දී පැවති රැස්වීමේ දී නියෝජ්‍ය විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්‍ය යසින් එක්රෙම් සෙරිම් මැතිතුමා සහ AFAD හි සභාපති යූනුස් සේසර් මහතා,භූ කම්පනයෙන් විපතට පත්වූවන්ට උපකාර කිරීම සඳහා මුලපිරූ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපතිනියට මෙන්ම, එම කර්තව්‍යය සඳහා ධනාත්මක ප්‍රතිචාර දැක්වූ අනෙකුත් තානාපතිවරුන්ට ද සිය ස්තූතිය පුද කළේ ය. තවද, වර්තමානයේ දී තුර්කිය මුහුණ දුන් මෙම ඛේදවාචකය මධ්‍යයේ තුර්කිය වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටින රටවල් තුර්කිය කිසිදා අමතක නොකරන බවද එතුමා සඳහන් කළේ ය.
තවද, 2004 දී හටගත් සුනාමි ව්‍යසනය, දැඩි කාලගුණික තත්ත්වයන්, කොවිඩ් වසංගතය ආදී අවස්ථාවන්හි දී සහය ලබා දෙමින් සහ පසුගිය වසරේ දී ශ්‍රී ලංකාව මුහුණ දුන් ඖෂධ හිඟය හමුවේ වෛද්‍ය සැපයුම් පරිත්‍යාග කරමින් තුර්කිය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දුෂ්කර කාලවලදී සිය සහය ලබා දී ඇති බව තානාපති දිසානායක මැතිනිය සිහිපත් කළා ය. තුර්කියට කෘතගුණ දැක්වීම සඳහා පිරිනැමූ මෙම පරිත්‍යාගය සම්බන්ධීකරණය කරමින් එතුමිය දැක්වූ දායකත්වය ඉතා සුළු දායකත්වයක් වන බවද එතුමිය මෙහිදී ප්‍රකාශ කළා ය. අවශ්‍ය විටෙක තුර්කියට පැමිණ සිය සහය ලබා දීමට ශ්‍රී ලංකා ආපදා ප්‍රතිචාර කණ්ඩායම් සූදානමින් පසුවන බවද තානාපතිනිය වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කළා ය.
මෙම අවස්ථාවට සහභාගී වූ තානාපතිවරු දැනුම්වත් කළ AFAD හි සභාපතිවරයා, භූ කම්පනයෙන් වැඩිම හානියට පත් ප්‍රදේශ එකොළහෙන් පුද්ගලයන් 40,000කට අධික පිරිසක් මියගොස් ඇති බවත්, මිලියන 14කට අධික ජනතාවකට සහ ජනාවාස 10,000කට අධික සංඛ්‍යාවකට හානි එල්ල වී ඇති බවත්, සඳහන් කළේ ය. තවද, විපතට පත් මිලියනයකට වැඩි පිරිසකට මේ වන විට තාවකාලික නවාතැන් ලබා දී ඇත.
ගුවන සහ ගොඩබිම යන දෙඅංශයෙන්ම ගලවා ගැනීමේ මෙහෙයුම් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම සඳහා විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්‍යංශයේ සම්බන්ධීකරණය යටතේ කණ්ඩායම් එවමින් රටවල් 80කට අධික ප්‍රමාණයකින් සුසැදි ජාත්‍යන්තර ප්‍රජාව විසින් ඉටු කරන ලද කාර්යභාරය නියෝජ්‍ය විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්‍යවරයාගේ පැසසුමට ලක්විය. එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මානුෂීය අභියාචනය වෙත සිය කෘතඥතාව පළ කළ එතුමා, සිරියාවට ආධාර ලබා දීමට තුර්කිය කටයුතු කරන බවද පැහැදිලි කළේ ය.
මෙම රැස්වීමෙන් පසුව, තානාපතිවරු AFAD හදිසි සම්බන්ධීකරණ මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ සංචාරයක නිතර වූහ. සියලුම රාජ්‍ය ආයතනවල නියෝජිතයන් පැය 24 පුරාම එහි සේවයේ නියැළෙති.
මෙම මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ සිදු කළ සංචාරය අවසානයේ දී AFAD හි සභාපතිවරයා සහ නියෝජ්‍ය විදේශ කටයුතු අමාත්‍යවරයා අන්කාරා හි සිටින රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික ප්‍රජාව පළ කළ හෘදයාංගම පරිත්‍යාගශීලීත්වය වෙනුවෙන් සිය කෘතවේදීත්වය පළ කළහ.
