The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta organized a Dhamma Sermon with the theme of “the serenity of the mind” at the Embassy premise on 05 May 2023.
The Dhamma Sermon was delivered by Siddharta temple of Indonesia, Ven. Abhipunno Thero. Ven Abhipunno Thero obtained his Master's from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and wishes to obtain Ph.D. from Sri Lanka in the future. Representatives of Indonesian Buddhist Associations namely Indonesian Theravada Buddhist Council (MAGABUDHI), Indonesian Theravada Women Association (WANDANI), Pemuda Theravada Indonesia (PATRIA), Representative of Indonesian Buddhists (WALUBI), WanitaBuddhis Indonesia (WBI) and Sri Lankan community in Indonesia participated in this event.
Although the majority of Indonesians are from the Islam religion, the Buddhist population (approximately 2 million) is also quite significant as they play an active role in the business world of Indonesia. Ven. Narada Maha Thero, a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk, and translator within the Theravada tradition remembered as the first Theravada bhikkhu to have set foot in Indonesia.
