On 29 July 2019, the Embassy of Venezuela in Russia organized an event in commemoration of the 65th birth anniversary of Hugo Chavez, who served as the 45th President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from 2002 until 2013.
Venezuela’s Ambassador to Russia, Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa, who had served as the Vice President of Venezuela under Hugo Chavez, underlined the importance of the legendary Comandante as a key figure in the history of Venezuela and the Latin American region on the whole and pointed out that President Chavez had fought for a multipolar world. He also thanked the gathering for their solidarity with Venezuela at this difficult time.
The address, made by the Head of the Venezuelan Diplomatic Mission, was followed by remarks of Defence Attaché of the Embassy, Division General José Rafael Torrealba Perez, who greeted Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka, while thanking him for attending the event. Furthermore, in his speech, Division General Perez talked about the achievements, which Venezuela had gained during Hugo Chavez’s presidency both within its domestic policy and in the framework of global affairs.
At the end of the event, Ambassador Jayatilleka and Madame Jayatilleka laid flowers with the rest of the guests of the commemoration at the bust of late President Chavez, placed near the street sign named after him, and posed for a group photograph.
